O Faroleiro

The firts restaurant in Guincho, Cascais

Tradition in serving the best seafood in Guincho

Located on Guincho street in Cascais, where its location provides a privileged view of the sea in all its corners, the Faroleiro is a classic. This was the first house to open on the site more than 70 years ago, namely in 1950, in which its owner Mr. João Pedro “do Cabo” (Former lighthouse keeper at Cabo Raso lighthouse) started by opening a small “stall” selling snacks, and later renovated it into a restaurant and tea house.

Primarily known for the famous Seafood Rice

Just over 20 years later, a long story began that still today unites two families on a path of dedication and great affection for a dream that made their success possible. In the mid-70s, José Pratas and Marcelo Gonçalves became partners and owners of this house, giving life to the so-called “O Faroleiro” as it is known today. This would have been a dream come true, from two friends who combined their knowledge, wisdom, art and hard work. This reality eventually made them family – with that same feeling, of familiarity, that they always intended to spread to their clients and certainly friends created over the years. Naturally focusing on what comes from the sea, he first became known for the famous Seafood Rice that enchanted as much or more than the view that his location provides.

Over the last 47 years, the Faroleiro has transformed and claims every year its place and status as one of the reference points and places to be visited for any tourist passing along the Guincho street heading towards Cabo da Roca, or Cascais. Having been the first restaurant in Guincho and remaining there until now, it adds to the value of being one of the oldest and most recognized restaurants in Cascais.
